Daniel Flannery conceived, produced, wrote and directed Majid and the Secret of Life, an original stereoscopic 3D dome film created as a permanent presentation for the KAHRAMAA Awareness Park in Doha, Qatar—the Middle East’s leading educational center devoted to water conservation and energy efficiency.
The film premiered with the park’s opening in 2017 and was presented in the purpose-built, 64-seat Dana Dome. Its innovative, patented presentation system projected stereoscopic imagery across a truncated spherical surface, surrounding the audience and creating the sensation that the story was unfolding above, around and within the theater.
Blending fantasy, science, adventure and environmental education, Majid and the Secret of Life explored the origins of water and its essential role in sustaining life. Majid and his grandfather carried audiences aboard a fantastical dhow on a journey through the universe and across time—encountering asteroids, the formation of Earth, prehistoric life, the Ice Age and, finally, a modern desalination plant in Qatar.
The Global Network of Water Museums identified the Dana Dome as “one of the highlights of the park,” noting its immersive presentation and its journey through the beginning of the universe, the origins of water and the emergence of life on Earth. At the park’s opening, The Peninsula Qatar went further, calling the Dana Dome “the most interesting part of the park.”
The presentation also received national attention when Qatar’s prime minister toured the Dana Dome and viewed its exploration of water, energy and conservation.
